The Federal Council wants to shift freight transport in the Alps from road to rail. To this end, the following steps will be taken in 2021:

• classification of Euro-4 and 5 trucks into the most expensive I toll category;
• stepping up controls on truck traffic, in particular by setting up a control center at Gotthard Süd in Giornico;
• additional price reductions for use of the rail network and ROLA.
